Who We Are

Barr Electric Company is an electrical contractor located in the Comox Valley, BC, founded in 1987. We are committed to "Doing it Right!" which defines how we approach the work that we do and how we operate.

Quality, Affordability, Fairness, and Kindness are the keys to our business values and our success.

We like to think of ourselves as the Comox Valley’s Friendly Neighbourhood Electricians because the area of business we work in is largely residential. But we also do work for many local businesses in our area – businesses we all enjoy frequenting.

The services Barr provides include installations of electrical services of various amperages, new panels, full wiring and finishing, repairs and troubleshooting, upgrades, removing and replacing wiring, all moves, adds, and changes, and installation of fixtures like fans, heating and cooling systems, lights, as well as Smart Home technologies. Basically, no job is too small for Barr Electric!!

From a one-hour repair to a hundred-hour home or business renovation, we will “Do it Right” whatever it takes.

Thea

Thea

Owner & Operator

When you call Barr Electric, Thea is the person who answers your call. She runs Barr Electric and manages our schedule, organizes estimates, prepares them for our customers, and takes care of all the rest of the stuff that comes with running a business that few electricians want to do. But Thea enjoys it. She loves talking with customers and helping them get the service they need. She also loves a job done right and will do whatever it takes to make sure that every customer is happy with our service. On her off-time, Thea spends quite a lot of time on Savary Island, walking the beaches, and reading in the sunshine. She is an active member of the Rotary Club of Comox Valley and is currently serving on the Board as Membership Director.

Dan

Dan

Master Electrician

Dan is a Master Electrician and our Field Safety Representative, which means he’s kind of the man in charge of all of us. Dan has deep industrial and commercial experience in Alberta. Locally, Dan worked on the Comox Valley’s new water treatment plant and has also built his residential experience with Barr, working as an independent contractor, and working on personal projects, building one home and doing a major renovation on another. Dan is proud to be an Infantryman with The Canadian Scottish Regiment, Princess Mary’s, and does regular and ongoing training and postings when he is called to. He is our official estimator, so when you need a price for a project Dan is likely the guy you’re going to meet.

Jeff with Thea

Jeff with Thea

Owners

Jeff recently retired from his role as Operations Manager with BC Ferries, and while he is enjoying his newfound freedom, we’re thinking he might get bored soon and we might be able to convince him to play a more active role with Barr soon. More on that later. The couple moved to Comox in 2010 with their two daughters and one cat (now they have a dog too). Jeff’s favourite activity is fishing with friends and enjoying local food from the Valley’s many restaurants. He also likes to use his chainsaw which he does regularly at the couple’s cabin on Savary Island.

Jeff and Thea have owned the Barr brand since August 2019. They enjoy this community immensely and are committed to being involved and giving back.

Jessie

Jessie

Electrical Apprentice

Jessie is an Electrical Apprentice having completed his first year of school. You’d never know it to see him work though. He is quick to learn and gets to the tools like he’s been doing this work a lot longer. Jessie is currently on assignment with The Canadian Scottish Regiment, but he will be back soon to work on some larger projects. We’re not certain (jk), but we think he really likes the outdoors, mostly hiking and climbing around in them.

Kyle

Kyle

4th Year Apprentice

Kyle is an Electrical Apprentice in his final year, soon to become a Journeyman. His experience so far apprenticing with other local electrical contractors includes residential wiring and finishing as well commercial electrical. Previously, Kyle worked with his family’s business, Valley Creative Concrete doing, ah, you know…concrete work. A real Comox Valley local, Kyle has the manner you’d expect from an Islander – both kind and easy-going. He, his wife, and little son enjoy living the rural lifestyle, close to town.

Everyone from the office to the electrician were extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I would recommend them most highly.
